Destination Details
Elephant Cave Temple
The temple is characterized by menacing faces that are carved into the stone – whose purpose is assumed to be the warding off of evil spirits. The primary figure was once thought to be an elephant, hence the nickname Elephant Cave. Although the exact origins of the cave are uncertain, it is believed to have been built as a place for spiritual meditation. One folklore relates that it was created by the fingernail of the legendary giant Kebo Iwa. However, examining its style, the sanctuary was probably dated from the 11th century Bali Kingdom. The complex contains both Hindu and Buddhist imagery, as the cave contains lingam and yoni, symbols of Shiva, and the image of Ganesha, while by the river there are carved images of stupas and chattra, imagery of Buddhism.

Tegalalang Rice Terrace is about 9 km from Ubud Center or about 20 minutes drive by car. A series of rice paddies located close to Ubud is famous for its terraced layout. This is a traditional Balinese irrigation system known as subak. Positioned in a valley the Tegalalang rice terraces offer extremely scenic lookouts over the rice fields and surrounding green landscape. It’s a very popular tourist hotspot in Bali and a must-see in many Bali itineraries.
Tirta Empul Temple
Tirta Empul is dedicated to Vishnu, the Hindu God of water. In the Balinese language, Tirta Empul loosely translated means water gushing from the earth, and for this reason, Tirta Empul is regarded as a holy spring. The Tirta Empul Temple includes shrines to Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma, as well as one for Indra and Mount Batur. It is considered one of the five most holy temples in all of Bali and is considered one of the holiest water sources in Bali. You can also find other holy water temples in Bali such as Pura Ulun Danu at Lake Beratan, Pura Tirta Tawar at Gianyar, Pura Tirta Harum at Bangli, Pura Tirta Taman Mumbul at Badung, many more.
Gunung Kawi Temple
At the bottom of a lush river valley running through the little town of Tampaksiring just northeast of Ubud, lies one of Bali's largest ancient temple complexes, the Candi Gunung Kawi. Comprising a collection of ancient 'Candi' or shrine reliefs carved directly into the face of a rock cliff, this is one of the most stunningly unique archeological sites besides being an important sacred place for the Balinese.
In their shape, the candis resemble small buildings surmounted by massive three-tiered roofs bearing nine stylized lingam-yoni fertility symbols. Each candi looks like a doorway, carved in relief, but going nowhere. Instead, there is a small chamber beneath the candi, accessed by a sloping shaft from the front, in which a stone plaque (peripih) with nine holes containing symbolic offerings of food and metal objects, representing the necessities of earthly existence, was placed.
River Tubing

Even though it is not very high, the water flow is very heavy. The water is also clean and clear. This waterfall comes from the Tukad Petanu River. This place is often used to do extreme things, such as jumping from the top of a waterfall.

We had a great experience with Adrian Tours. Adrian was very communicative, helpful and always gave fair, honest prices. He was happy to help us with any trip we wanted to take. We originally booked one of his drivers for an airport transport and then continued to hire car driver and scooter driver services throughout our six-week stay. All of his cars were tidy, had AC and were well kept. The scooters were equipped with well fitting helmets. They even let us borrow their umbrella for the duration of our stay. The drivers were amazing - punctual, friendly, helpful and were happy to follow our lead (we have a toddler so sometimes had specific requests). Big thanks to our cat drivers Nando, Wayan Madya and Wayan Kiki as well as our scooter drivers Mike and Galang. I highly recommend Adrian Tours to book your drivers through during your stay in Bali. Adrian helping me plan out all the details of my trip before arrival, including prices. As we progressed through my trip the drivers were very willing to adapt the schedule as timing and energy levels changed. My favorite driver was Rofi who was with me most of the trip. There were some very long days as I was moving around the island and he was great at being aware of when I was talkative and when I just needed quiet.
